Understanding minds and systems — from the micro to the macro.

About Me

I am a psychologist, academic, and researcher deeply committed to applying psychological science to address legal, societal, and systemic issues. My academic and professional work is grounded in forensic, health, and social psychology. I focus on understanding and challenging gendered rape myths. These myths have implications across the criminal justice system. I aim to bridge the gap between psychological theory and applied practice. My focus is on the realms of survivor advocacy, criminal justice reform, and public understanding of complex psychological phenomena.

Research Focus

My current research examines the construction, maintenance, and deconstruction of male rape myths within England, examining how such beliefs shape responses to victim-survivors and influence legal, institutional, and interpersonal outcomes. This work intersects with broader issues of gender, power, and stigma and reflects my broader interest in the psychological underpinnings of harm, justice, and systemic bias. I also conduct research in areas such as reproductive justice, media representations of forensic issues, cultural and racial bias within the criminal justice system, and the lived experiences of GBT+ individuals.

Broader research interest

  • Male and Gender based Rape Myths: construction, reinforcement, and disruption within legal, institutional, and interpersonal contexts
  • Secondary victimisation and bystander interventions
  • Reproductive coercion and reproductive justice in contemporary socio-political frameworks
  • Media and cultural narratives: their role in shaping public understanding of forensic psychology, policing, and crime
  • LGBTQ+ experiences within the criminal justice system.
  • Structural, cultural and interpersonal issues and their intersection with psychological and criminal justice processes
  • Serious and organised crime: prevention, disruption, and the psychology of group-based ideologies and actions
